Romania: Largest oversized transport delivers gas turbine for Mintia power plant

This Sunday, an oversized transport carrying a gas turbine for the Mintia gas-fired power plant in Hunedoara County entered Romania through the Nadlac I border crossing.

This is the largest oversized transport in Romania’s history. The convoy measures 128 meters in length, 6 meters in width, and 5.4 meters in height, with a total weight of 788 tons. This delivery is part of a larger contract involving more than 250 components, which have been arriving at the Mintia construction site since June 2024.

The Romanian Government has classified the Mintia gas-fired power plant project as a national priority in the energy sector. This designation highlights the government’s commitment to strengthening energy security, modernizing the national energy system, and supporting economic growth through strategic investments.

The new facility will include advanced gas and steam turbines with a total installed capacity of 1,770 MW. With an investment of 1.4 billion euros, the project is expected to create hundreds of jobs while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with European decarbonization targets. The plant is projected to generate approximately 12,159 GWh of electricity annually and operate for at least 30 years.
