Serbia: SEEPEX day-ahead market sees decrease in January 2025 trading volume

In January 2025, a total of 455,751 MWh of electricity was traded on the day-ahead market of the Serbian Energy Exchange (SEEPEX), reflecting an 11.8% decrease compared to the previous month. The average daily traded volume was 14,701.6 MWh. However, the traded volume in January was 5.1% higher than in the same month last year.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market in January was 139.42 euros/MWh, which is a slight 0.1% increase from December. Meanwhile, the average euro-peak price stood at 155.1 euros/MWh, marking a decrease of 4.2%.

SEEPEX, which was officially launched on 17 February 2016, had a traded volume of just 1,925 MWh on its first day. The exchange is jointly owned by the Serbian electricity transmission system operator EMS and the European Power Exchange (EPEX SPOT), with the goal of supporting the development of a competitive, transparent, and reliable electricity market in Serbia and southeastern Europe. This initiative has significantly contributed to the increase in trading volumes in the region. In July 2023, SEEPEX also launched an intraday market.
