Region: Romania-Serbia 400 kV transmission line fully operational, boosting regional energy connectivity

The second circuit of the 400 kV Resita (Romania) – Pancevo (Serbia) double-circuit overhead transmission line has officially entered commercial operation, completing the project and enhancing the electricity transmission interconnection between Romania and Serbia. With the full commissioning of the 400 kV Resita-Pancevo line, Romania’s cross-border transmission capacity with Serbia now reaches up to 1,000 MW.

This interconnection is the eleventh 400 kV transmission line connecting Romania to its neighboring countries, highlighting Transelectrica’s commitment to advancing energy infrastructure and promoting regional electricity market integration. The completion of the Resita-Pancevo line marks a key milestone in the second phase of the 400 kV expansion project at the Resita transformer substation, which is expected to be fully completed by the end of Q1 2025.

In November 2024, the first circuit of the 400 kV Resita-Pancevo overhead transmission line became operational after the partial commissioning of the upgraded 400 kV Resita substation. The full operationalization of this line is crucial for strengthening the national electricity system and the wider southeastern European network. It helps reduce congestion at the Romanian-Serbian border, boosts electricity supply security, expands energy transfer capacity, and facilitates regional energy exchanges. Additionally, the new infrastructure enables the integration of new electricity producers and consumers into the network.

The 400 kV Resita-Pancevo transmission line spans 131 kilometers, with 63 kilometers of the line located in Romania.
