Greece: ADMIE invites bids for 1.7 billion euro undersea cable project

Greek electricity transmission system operator ADMIE has invited Fulgor, Nexans Norway and Prysmian Powerlink to submit binding bids for the supply of undersea cables to connect several Greek islands to the mainland electricity network.

The contract, estimated at a value of 1.7 billion euros, will be awarded to the bidder with the most competitive financial proposal. The chosen company will be tasked with constructing undersea cables to deliver electricity to the Aegean islands of Kos, Rhodes, Karpathos, Lemnos, Lesvos, Skyros, Chio, and Samos.

As part of its broader strategy, ADMIE plans to invest significant funds in connecting Greek islands to the national electricity grid. Currently, many islands rely on costly and environmentally harmful oil-fired power plants, which often struggle to meet energy demand during the busy summer tourist season.
