Serbia and Russia initiate expansion of Banatski Dvor gas storage facility

Dusan Bajatovic, Director of state-owned gas company Srbijagas, announced that Serbia and Russia have commenced work on expanding the underground gas storage facility in Banatski Dvor. The project will utilize Russian equipment and technologies, benefiting both Serbian consumers and Russian manufacturers.

The planned expansion aims to increase the storage capacity to 750 million cubic meters, alongside additional gas storage in Cestereg, northern Serbia. Bajatovic noted that these enhancements will enable the storage of 2.5 to 3 million cubic meters of gas.

During the International Gas Forum in St. Petersburg, Bajatovic is set to meet with Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller to discuss the delivery of additional gas supplies to Serbia. Expected deliveries for the heating season could reach up to 400 million cubic meters, with the potential for even higher volumes. Pricing for these deliveries will be addressed, with contract extensions anticipated in the first quarter of next year.

In 2023, Russia supplied Serbia with 2.68 billion cubic meters of gas, and this year’s deliveries are projected to exceed 3 billion cubic meters. According to Bajatovic, daily gas deliveries will increase from 6 million cubic meters to 11 million during the winter, with the current price set at $300 per thousand cubic meters.
