UAE’s TAQA reaffirms commitment to Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project

During a meeting in New York on September 25, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and a delegation from the UAE’s state-owned TAQA, led by CEO Afif Saif Al Yafei, discussed the company’s involvement in the GSI Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project. This meeting followed Christodoulides’ earlier visit to the UAE on September 9, where both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors, particularly in energy.

Cyprus government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis noted that TAQA had signed a memorandum of understanding with Cyprus and Greece’s power transmission operator ADMIE in December 2023. Additionally, a dedicated committee has been established to facilitate discussions on TAQA’s participation in the project. The recent talks focused on expanding and accelerating this cooperation.
