North Macedonia: Gen-I Group launches 12 MW solar power plant

The Slovenian Gen-I Group has inaugurated a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 12 MW near Kavadarci, North Macedonia. This facility is expected to generate up to 15,500 MWh of electricity annually, significantly contributing to the country’s decarbonization efforts. This marks Gen-I’s second large-scale solar power project in North Macedonia.

The plant was established on a 70,000 square meter degraded area on the hillsides near Kavadarci, where 17,612 photovoltaic modules were installed, covering a total area of 60,000 square meters. Under optimal weather conditions, the modules can produce enough carbon-free energy to meet the electricity needs of approximately 3,400 households, resulting in annual savings of 7,574 tons of carbon dioxide.

In Slovenia, Gen-I has already constructed over 10,000 small solar power plants. With the Kavadarci project, the company continues its international expansion following the successful launch of its first large-scale solar power plant in North Macedonia in October 2022, located in Amzabegovo, which has a total capacity of 17 MW and produces up to 25,000 MWh of electricity per year.
