Serbia enhances energy security with increased gas storage and new deliveries from Azerbaijan

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic has announced that Serbia’s gas storage facilities are well-stocked, with significant reserves planned for November. The Banatski Dvor underground gas storage facility will hold 750 million cubic meters, while an additional 163 million cubic meters will be stored in Hungary.

Minister Djedovic also confirmed that Serbia has secured additional gas deliveries from Azerbaijan. The formal agreement for these additional quantities will be finalized soon, providing Serbia with extra flexibility and security.

Looking ahead, the Banatski Dvor facility’s capacity is set to increase to 1.5 billion cubic meters by the end of 2026. This expansion is expected to significantly enhance Serbia’s energy security and stability for the next 25 years.

In late 2023, Minister Djedovic signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Azerbaijan, deepening energy relations between the two countries. Additionally, a commercial contract between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and Srbijagas was finalized, allowing for the delivery of up to 400 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas to Serbia by the end of 2024.
