Europe: Electricity demand trends

During the week of August 12, electricity demand across major European markets exhibited varied trends compared to the previous week. Italy saw the largest drop of 12%, while France experienced the smallest decline at 3.7%. In Spain and Portugal, demand fell by 9.6% and 7.9%, respectively. However, in Belgium, demand increased by 2.2% despite the holiday, marking the third consecutive week of rising electricity consumption in the country.

In other markets, demand rose. The Dutch market recorded the most significant increase at 13%, while Germany and Great Britain saw increases of 2.3% and 2.0%, respectively.

Throughout the week, average temperatures rose between 1.8°C in Germany and 0.1°C in Italy. In Spain, Great Britain, and Portugal, temperatures fell by between 1.3°C and 0.4°C. In France, average temperatures remained stable compared to the previous week.

For the week of August 19, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting’s demand forecasts indicate that these trends will continue to be diverse. Demand is expected to rise in Germany, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, while it is anticipated to decrease in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK, AleaSoft reports.
