Greece: EU funding for Alexandroupoli FSRU’s remaining projects

The Greek finance ministry has called on Gastrade, the consortium behind the Alexandroupoli FSRU at the country’s northeastern port, to prepare a list of remaining projects needed for the facility’s completion and operation so that, in turn, this list may be submitted to the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for project financing of up to 48.2 million euros through the fund’s Environment and Climate Change Program.

These projects, categorized as Phase B projects, would follow Phase A projects that were financed through the EU operational program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, one of seven sectoral and thirteen regional operational programs of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (NSRF) for 2014–2020.

Once fully operational, the Alexandroupoli FSRU will include an offshore floating LNG temporary storage and gasification unit comprised of four LNG tanks with a total capacity of 153,500 cubic meters. It will offer an hourly gasification capacity of 625 Nm2/h under normal operating conditions.

The Alexandroupoli FSRU’s permanent offshore installations will include anchoring the floating unit at a fixed point in a sea area with a depth of approximately 40 meters. The chosen location lies 17.6 km southwest of Alexandroupoli and 10 km from the nearest coast of Makri, energypress.eu reports.
