Oil company Helleniq Energy Holdings has secured environmental approval to build a 260 MW solar photovoltaic park in the Western Macedonia region.

The permit was awarded by the Ministry of the Interior. The project will be implemented by Hellenq Energy’s subsidiary Fensol Holding Ltd in the Florina regional unit.

The project envisages the installation of PV panels across a site of 1.1 million sq km. The plant will use existing infrastructure and will be connected to the high-voltage lines in the area.

According to local media, HelleniQ Renewables has also been awarded a license for a 50 MW battery storage project in the Trikala unit of Thessaly region.

Helleniq Energy Group’s strategic plan is to have at least 1 GW of renewables in operation by 2025 and over 2 GW by 2030. Its total development portfolio currently stands at over 4.2 GW.
