Romania: Photon Energy commissioned a 3.9-MWp solar power plant

Renewables developer Photon Energy NV has connected a 3.9-MWp solar farm to the Romanian grid, bringing its total installed capacity in the country to 35 MWp.

The latest solar farm was built on a greenfield site spanning over 6.6 hectares located in Timis County. The plant, equipped with 7,280 bifacial photovoltaic modules mounted on single-axis trackers, is expected to be able to produce 5.8 GWh of electricity per year.

Photon Energy will sell the electricity on the energy market on a merchant basis, anticipating around EUR 550,000 in revenues in 2024 based on the current forward prices for electricity base load in Romania.

Photon’s Romanian subsidiary focused on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services and built the solar farm. The group’s fully owned special-purpose vehicle will own and operate the plant.

“This latest addition rounds up our portfolio expansion in Romania to a total of nine power plants with a total installed capacity of 35.4 MWp in 2023, with an additional four power plants with a combined installed capacity of 16.9 MWp constructed and expected to be commissioned in the following months,” commented Photon Energy Group CEO Georg Hotar.
