Romania: Electricity production reached 47.2 TWh in the first ten months

Energy resources in Romania, including imports, reached 27.6 million TOE in the first ten months of 2023, dropping by 1.8% on the year, INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 12.6 million TOE, down by an annual 3.9%.

In the same period, electricity output and imports totalled 53.98 TWh, up 1.8% on the year. The country’s electricity output accounted for 47.21 TWh, increasing by 2.6% year-on-year.

In the ten months through October, thermal power plants generated 14.23 TWh of electricity (-19%), while the output of hydroelectric power stations jumped by an annual 34% to 15.93 TWh.

Electricity generation in nuclear plant inched up by 2.6% to 9.31 TWh.

Wind farms generated 6.19 TWh, rising by an annual 6.3%, while solar plants generated 1.53 TWh, falling by 7.4% on the year.

Romania’s electricity exports rose 65.9% on the year, reaching 9.4 TWh in the first ten months of 2023, while imports fell by an annual 3.7% to 6.78 TWh.

The country produced 2.34 million TOE of crude oil, down 4% on the year, and 2.13 million TOE of coal, down 17.1%, during January-October. Natural gas production rose 2.1% year-on-year, reaching 6.21 million TOE.
