Romania: Electricity production reached 39 TWh in first eight months

Electricity production in Romania reached 38.79 TWh in the first eight months of 2023, which is 4% more compared to the same period in 2022, according to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics.

Production in thermal power plants decreased by 21% to 11.25 TWh. Production in hydropower plants increased by 45% to 14.07 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant increased by 3% to 7.31 TWh.

Production of wind power in January-August rose by 1% compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 4.94 TWh. Solar power production reached 1.22 TWh, 10% less compared to 2022.

Electricity exports in the first eight months of 2023 amounted to 7.9 TWh, which is 80% more compared to the same period in 2022. At the same time, electricity imports decreased by 10% and amounted to 5.21 TWh.

Electricity consumption in Romania in the first eight months amounted to 32.7 TWh, 7% less compared to 2022. 

Industrial electricity consumption reached 24.85 TWh, 5% less compared to last year. Household electricity consumption amounted to 7.57 TWh, which is an 11% decrease. Public lighting consumption dropped by 22%, amounting to 278.5 GWh.
