Romania: Electricity production reached 34.5 TWh in first seven months

Electricity consumption in Romania in January – july period amounted to 28.6 TWh, which is 7% less compared to same period in 2022.

Industrial electricity consumption reached 21.7 TWh, which is 6% less compared to last year, according to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics.

Household electricity consumption amounted to 6.6 TWh, which is an 11% decrease. Public lighting consumption dropped by 24% amounting to 252.6 GWh.

Total electricity production reached 34.5 TWh in the first seven months of 2023, which is 4% more compared to the same period in 2022.

Production in thermal power plants decreased by 22% to 9.75 TWh. Production in hydropower plants increased by 46.5 % to 12.9 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant increased by 2.5 % to 6.35 TWh.

Production of wind power in January-July 2023 rose by 1% compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 4.5 TWh. Solar power production reached 1,024 GWh, 12% less compared to 2022.

Electricity exports in the first seven months of 2023 amounted to 7.21 TWh, which is by 92% more compared to the same period in 2022. At the same time electricity imports decreased by 8.5 % and amounted to 4.35 TWh.
