RS: The price of electricity will not rise in 2024

Radovan Viskovic, Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska, said that electricity price will not rise in 2024.

Viskovic said at the Banja Luka Energy Forum that the distribution network in Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot handle the demands for the connection of wind and solar power plants. He added that at the investors are interested in 3,000 MW of capacity, which the distribution network cannot accommodate. Because of this, during a meeting of the political party leaders forming the Government at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he raised the issue of the functioning of Elektroprenos BiH regarding network development.

He said that 60% of energy in Bosnia and Herzegovina comes from coal, and that needs to change, adding that the demand from the business community and investors to pay value-added tax on the difference between produced and consumed energy is justified.

President of the Union of Employers’ Associations of RS Sasa Trivic said that many have lost competitiveness due to the increase in energy prices, expressing hope that electricity prices in RS will not rise in the near future. He added that RS is lagging behind in terms of energy and that significant costs are expected to align with the European Union, including serious changes towards decarbonization due to the threat of future carbon tax.
