Serbia: EBRD considering approving a 62 million euro loan for Vlasinske HPPs reconstruction

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering providing a 52 million euro loan to Serbian power utility EPS for the project of reconstruction of the Vlasinske hydro power plants.

The project aims to extend the operational life of the HPPs within the complex, totaling 128 MW of installed capacity, and increase the installed capacity by 8 MW, thus increasing the annual electricity generation to 310 GWh.

The project will benefit from 15.4 million euros of grant funding from the European Union, via the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), approved in December 2022 and supported by the EBRD.

The project envisages the reconstruction of production generators, auxiliary and side electromechanical systems of the generators and the power plant, hydromechanicalequipment and control equipment on the facilities of Vlasinske HPPs. The reconstruction will allow the reliable and safe operation of HPPs for the next 30 years, as it will also increase the installed capacity by 8 MW.
