Bulgaria, Bulgargaz announced a tender for the first delivery of LNG via Turkey

Bulgaria’s public gas supplier Bulgargaz has announced a public tender for the supply of 500,000 MWh of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for April, which means the country will receive its first deliveries through a gas terminal in Turkey, according to a statement.

The supply is made possible by an agreement with Turkish state gas operator Botas, which was signed last month. The contract gives Bulgaria access to Turkish gas infrastructure, Bulgargaz said in a statement.

As a precondition for participating in the tender, it is stated that LNG must come from countries that have not been subject to sanctions, embargoes or any other trade restrictions, Bulgargaz notes.

Expressions of interest in participating in the tender will be received until February 28, according to documents published on the Bulgargaz website. The public supplier requires at least two LNG tankers, which when regasified must equal a total quantity of at least 1,500,000 MWh.

According to the tender documents, Bulgargaz will publish a shortlist of potential suppliers by March 2. They will then have until March 9 to submit official bids, and the tender winner will be chosen on March 10.

In November, Bulgargaz launched a tender procedure for the selection of a long-term supplier of LNG through the planned terminal in Alexandroupolis, Greece, between 2024 and 2034.
