Bulgaria, Renalfa acquires local wind energy companies from Alpiq

Bulgarian clean energy and e-mobility investor Renalfa has added a new 72.5 MW of capacity to its local portfolio, with the purchase of three local companies active in the onshore wind energy, trading and services sector from Swiss energy group Alpiq.

The transaction includes the Vetrocom wind farm, service company Alpiq Wind Services and electricity trader Alpiq Energia Bulgaria, the company said, without specifying the financial terms of the deal.

The agreement provides Renalfa with the capacity to produce an additional 135 GWh of electricity per year, increasing its offering in solar PV plants, electric vehicle charging stations and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services through the Solarpro Group.

Vetrocom, located near the city of Kazanlak, was developed by Alpiq with an investment of 80 million euros. The wind farm was put into operation in stages, between 2010 and 2012, according to data on the website of the Swiss company. It is equipped with 29 Fuhrlander turbines with a power of 2.5 MW each.

The total value of Alpiq’s investments in Bulgaria, where it had no other wind farms, amounts to 117 million euros.

In March 2022, Renalfa entered into a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply renewable electricity to A1 Bulgaria, a unit of the A1 Telekom Austria Group.
