Romania, First auction for RES until the end of June 2023.

The Romanian Ministry of Energy has published a call for expressions of interest from producers of renewable energy sources to participate in the upcoming clean energy auctions. The invitation states that interested RES developers have until December 30 to express their interest. The auction scheme will be configured in the form of a contract for difference (CfD). Authorities will award 15-year power purchase contracts to selected developers.

The Romanian authorities will hold the first auction before the end of June 2023, and contracts will be awarded for 750 MW of solar and 750 MW of wind power plants. Facilities should have a capacity of at least 5 MW, with no size restrictions.

According to Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), the first round of difference contracts for at least 1,500 MW of capacity should be organized in the second half of 2023, and the second round in the first half of 2025, for an additional 2,000 MW, Mihai said. Balan, executive director of the Romanian Photovoltaic Industry Association, for pv magazine in November.

It is a milestone in our NRRP that we will have the first capacities supported by this mechanism starting to work by 2026, said Balan.
