Region, 400 kV transmission line between Slovenia and Hungary put into operation

In this way, the issue of the trilateral 400 kV interconnection between Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary was resolved

The first interconnection between Slovenia and Hungary, Cirkovce – Pince 2 x 400kV, with a length of 80 kilometers, was put into operation last week, announced the Slovenian transmission operator Eles.

The Ćirkovce – Pince transmission line is important for a faster green transition and energy stability. Eles completed the investment at the right moment, said Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, who, together with his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orbán, attended the commissioning of the interconnection that will connect the energy systems of the two countries.

This is the largest investment in the Slovenian transmission network so far, partly financed by European funds. After the establishment of the electrical connection between Slovenia and Hungary, a gas connection is also planned in the following years.

Almost 30 years ago, transmission system operators of Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary agreed to connect transmission lines in the cross-border triangle Žerjavinec, Cirkovce and Hevitz. Finally, in January 2018, the Slovenian and Croatian transmission operators ELES and HOPS signed the Framework Agreement on the construction and use of the high-voltage power line Cirkovce – Pince.

HOPS supported the project for several reasons, mostly due to the fact that it fully resolves the long open issue of the trilateral 400 kV connection between Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary, said Davor Filipović, Croatian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.

The construction of the transmission line connected the power transmission network of Slovenia (TS 400/110 kV Cirkovce) and Hungary (TS 400/120 kV Heviz), as well as Croatia (TS 400/220/110 kV Žerjavinec) and Slovenia (TS Cirkovce), with the existing interconnection between Croatia and Hungary.
