Croatia, Koncar Elektroindustrija has signed a contract with PPC for the rehabilitation of hydropower plant Messochora in Greece

Croatian electricity equipment manufacturer Koncar Elektroindustrija announced that it has signed a contract with Greek state-controlled Public Power Corporation (PPC) for the rehabilitation of hydropower plant Messochora in western Greece, for which the company provided equipment two decades ago.

The statement from the company said that the contract includes testing and the analysis of the existing equipment, as well as preparations for the commissioning of the plant. However, Koncar did not disclose financial details of the contract.

HPP Messochora has 2 x 90 MW installed capacity and Koncar provided electromechanical equipment for the plant back in 1996. The project was implemented between 1996 and 2022. However, PPC faced certain administrative issues which prevented it from filling up the reservoir with the water necessary for testing, and ultimately it was unable to commission the plant. Therefore, in agreement with PPC, the equipment was subsequently handed over and preserved so that the project could be continued once the necessary conditions are created.

PPC now wants to commission the plant with as much originally manufactured equipment as possible. Some of the installed equipment has undergone several technological updates. Therefore, some of the original members of Koncar’s team during the plant construction will participate in its rehabilitation.
