Unit 6 of coal-fired power plant Sostanj, operated by energy company HSE, will be reconnected to the electricity network in early December, following a month and a half long downtime. The unit was offline due to the company’s efforts to save fuel for the winter season.
The 600 MW unit was offline since mid-October due to issues with coal supply from the nearby Velenje coalmine. Initially, it was planned that the unit will be out of operation until 2 November, but the restart of production was later postponed in order to save coal.
In the meantime, Velenje coalmine signed two coal supply agreements with Swiss company Petraco for the supply of Indonesian coal which should compensate lower domestic production.
Two units of TPP Sostanj produced 3,166 GWh of electricity in 2021.
