Bulgaria, CWP Global is planning to invest over 600 million euros in the construction of onshore wind farm

Dobrotich Wind, a local subsidiary of renewables developer CWP Global, said that its is planning to invest over 600 million euros in the construction of onshore wind farm in Bulgaria.

The statement from the company said that wind farm will be located near Varna in northeastern Bulgaria. It will consist of 74 wind turbines with 8 MW output each, for a total of 592 MW of installed capacity. The wind farm will generate enough electricity to cover the needs of some 440,000 households.

The location was chosen for its combination of very good wind potential, low environmental risk and the availability of suitable electricity transmission infrastructure. The project will be implemented with the most recent wind generators, using the latest and most advanced technologies. The project will not be financed through EU grants, state investments or preferential electricity purchase prices.

CWP Global has been developing large-scale renewables projects in Central and Eastern Europe since 2010. It has completed the installation of 158 MW of wind farms in Serbia and 600 MW in Romania, and has 3,000 MW of renewables in the pipeline in Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania.

At the end of 2021, Bulgaria had 701 MW of installed wind capacity. The 2022-2031 national plan for electricity network development envisages the installation of energy projects with a total capacity of 5,881 MW, of which 4,858 MW in renewable energy. Out of these, 343 MW should be in wind projects.
