Romania, Transgaz has launched a tender for the purchase of imported natural gas for balancing purposes

Romanian natural gas transmission system operator Transgaz has launched a tender for the purchase of imported natural gas for balancing purposes in the first quarter of 2023.

The company is looking to buy a total of 128 million cubic meters of natural gas, which could be supplemented by a maximum of 25 %. The estimated values of the contract is between 200 and 270 million euros with deliveries between 1 January and 31 March 2023.

Transgaz is offering about 160 euros/MWh of gas, which is some 30 to 40 euros lower compared to current Q1 2023 prices on the CEGH hub.

Transgaz needs additional gas to balance the national transport system if, during the period of maximum demand during the winter, the sources of gas from domestic production and from storage facilities are exploited to the maximum, and the previously contracted gas quantities do not cover the gas required to keep national transport system within operational limits.
