Greece, RWE will work with ELPE on exploring the possibilities for joint participation in offshore wind projects

German energy company RWE said that it will work with Greek oil refiner Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE) on exploring the possibilities for joint participation in offshore wind projects, in Greece’s effort to have up to 2 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030.

The partnership will draw on ELPE’s extensive knowledge of energy markets in Greece and southestern Europe in addition to its strong relationships with key stakeholders. At the same time, it will benefit from RWE’s technical and commercial know-how garnered through the development and operation of 18 offshore wind farms in five countries.

The German company, which is present in Greece with its local subsidiary RWE Renewables Hellas, is looking to add offshore wind to its solar power capacity in the country.

ELPE’s renewables subsidiary ELPE Renewables owns operational assets of nearly 300 MW, including the 204 MW Kozani bifacial solar power plant, and is working on more than 2 GW of solar and wind projects.
