Bosnia and Herzegovina, EBRD lends 20m euros to Elektroprijenos to upgrade transmission network

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced on Tuesday that it has approved a 20m-euro loan to Bosnia’s state-owned transmission system operator Elektroprijenos to modernize and upgrade key telecommunications systems.

The company will use the funds to improve the efficiency and management of its power substations and distribution systems, reducing grid losses, improving system reliability and increasing readiness to integrate additional intermittent renewable energy capacity, reducing CO2 emissions, the EBRD said in a press release.

This project is part of the investment plan of Elektroprijenos for the period 2022-2028. and will enable the company to take full advantage of its Surveillance and Data Collection Control (SCADA) system, the EBRD said.

“The project is also expected to be a step towards improved integration of regional power markets in the Western Balkans, contributing to improving cross-border trade and allocating electricity transmission capacity through optimized transmission network management,” said Mark Bowman, EBRD Deputy President.
