Macedonia: PV power plant on the site of the old Oslomej mine put into trial operation

The 10 MW Oslomej 1 photovoltaic power plant was put into trial operation on Wednesday. It was built on the location of the old Oslomej coal mine, and during the construction of this power plant, 15 hectares of land were recultivated.

The Oslomej solar power plant is owned by ESM, and was built with funds from the EBRD loan in the amount of 7 million euros.

This 10 MW capacity will produce 15 to 17 GWh of electricity per year and will enable clean energy supply to 2,800 households in the country.

The event marking the completion of the construction of the PV power plant was attended by Prime Minister Dimitar Kovačevski, Minister of Economy Krešnik Bekteši and ESM Director Vasko Kovačevski.

ESM is working on a new study for another 10 MW power plant, and contracts have been signed for the construction of two more photovoltaic power plants, thanks to which Oslomej will completely switch from coal to renewable energy sources, said Prime Minister Kovacevski.

He announced that the construction of the Čebren hydroelectric power plant will begin soon. The decision on the selection of the most favorable bidder is expected to be adopted in the middle of the year.
