Greece, DESFA said that the country’s first gas spot trading platform will be launched on 21 March

Greek natural gas transmission system operator DESFA said that the country’s first gas spot trading platform will be launched on 21 March.

The statement from the operator said that, in cooperation with EnExGroup, the parent of the Hellenic Energy Exchange (HEnEx) and EnΕx Clearing House, it already presented the framework of the new gas trading platform as well as the new balancing, trading and clearing arrangements to traders, suppliers and major consumers in the Greek gas market.

DESFA CEO Maria Rita Galli said that in these turbulent times, new gas trading platform will offer multiple benefits, most importantly price discovery, assisting market players to optimize supply conditions to the benefit of the consumers and enhancing the security of supply. The trading hub will also serve as a key tool in the future gas market that will be based on renewable gas.

With the construction of gas pipelines from Azerbaijan, LNG terminals and gas interconnection with neighboring countries, Greece is on the right way of becoming a regional gas hub.
