Albania, OST plans significant investments in the next three years

Albanian electricity transmission system operator OST plans significant investments in the next three years in order to enable the connection of new electricity generation facilities to the network.

Although investments are currently suspended due to the energy crisis in Albania and only necessary interventions are allowed, OST has planned an investment worth at least 134 million euros, according to a plan the company sent for approval to energy regulator ERE.

In the period between 2022 and 2024, OST plans investments worth 134 million euros, of which 44.3 % is through foreign financing.

OST energy efficiency project is financed through 40 million euros loan provided by the German Government through its Development Bank (KfW). Planned investment also include the construction of the 400 kV electricity interconnection to North Macedonia and the expansion of the substations Elbasan 2 and Fier, which are also supported by the German Government with a loan of 50 million euros and a grant of 13.7 million euros from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). Another planned investment is the new 110 kV Fier – Hokhare transmission line and the construction of a new transmission line Tirana 1 – Center.
