Bosnia and Herzegovina, EPBiH have reached an agreement according to which the purchase price of coal will be increased by 20 %

Power utility EPBiH and the miners of the seven coalmines operated by the company, who were on strike in the past two weeks, have reached an agreement according to which the purchase price of coal will be increased by 20 %.

According to Bosnian media, this could lead to an increase in electricity prices in 2022 by as much as 38 %. However, General Director of EPBiH Admir Andelija claims that this will not affect the price of electricity for residential consumers in 2022.

The miners also requested the dismissal of the Director of Kreka coalmine Husein Trunic, which was accepted, and the dismissal of General Director of EPBiH, but it was agreed that Andelija will remain at the company’s helm.

Last week, miners from Kreka coalmine have halted production at the mine and protested in front of the Federal Government building in Sarajevo. Due to the lack of coal stocks, only one unit of thermal power plant Tuzla is currently in operation, which remains highly susceptible to any kind of supply disruptions.

Following the agreement between the management and the miners, the mines’ operation will be resumed.
