Greece, Fires caused damages of 25 million euros to distribution network

According to Greek electricity distribution system operator DEDDIE, damages to electricity infrastructure caused by fires in various parts of the country have reached between 20 and 25 million euros, according to estimates, but the
amount could rise as fires continue to burn in northern part of the Evia island.

The estimate includes substations, utility poles and transmission lines. The operator is ready to replace damaged infrastructure, as soon as possible.

The cost of the fire-related damages is not negligible and represents about 14 % of last year’s total investments at DEDDIE, which reached 175 million euros.

Until 7 August, a total of 2,150 utility poles, 120 substations and 109 kilometers of low and medium-voltage transmission lines in the wider Athens area, Evia and the Peloponnese were damaged or destroyed.
