Bulgaria: Overgas might expand to Western Balkans

Following Linden Energy’s acquisition of 50 % stake in the company, Bulgarian gas supplier Overgas said that it would consider the expansion of its business to other countries in Western Balkans region.  Linden Energy President Stephen Payne said earlier this month that, in addition to plans for the expansion of network and customer base in Bulgaria, Overgas will also be looking to enter the markets of other countries in the Western Balkans region. He pointed out that Albania and Kosovo are practically not gasified at all, which presents an opportunity for Overgas.

Overgas CEO Svetoslav Ivanov said that the company is considering the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the Albanian coast, with plans to invest into new gas links between Western Balkans countries and gas supply in the region.

The company is also in the process of obtaining the necessary permits for business operations in Romania.

Overgas is the biggest independent natural gas supplier and trader on the Bulgarian market. It is the first one to gain access to the infrastructure network paving the way to market liberalization.
