Romania: Nuclearelectrica’s Q1 2021 profit rose slightly

During the first quarter of the year, Romanian electricity producer Nuclearelectrica recorded a net profit in the amount of 48 million euros, which is 9 % higher compared to the same period last year.

The company’s operating profit rose by 10.4 % year-on-year to 57.4 million euros, mainly due to an increase of operational revenues by 10.6 %, which amounted to 143 million euros in the first three months of the year. Revenues rise was influenced by an increase in the weighted average price of the electricity sold. Revenues from electricity sales reached 138.7 million euros, which is a 9.3 % increase year-on-year. Nuclearelectrica produced about 2.659 TWh of electricity in the first quarter, which is 6.6 % less compared to the same period in 2020.

Nuclearelectrica, the operator of the country’s sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, said that it has recorded a net profit in the amount of 140 million euros, which is by 27.8 % more than in 2019. The company’s operating profit increased by 21.8 % to 157.2 million euros, while its operating expenses were 3.5 % lower at 242 million euros.
