In Romania in the first two months of 2021 electricity consumption amounted to 9.26 TWh, which is 2.9 % less compared to the same period in 2020, according to the data published by the National Institute for Statistics (INS).
The data show that industrial electricity consumption reached 6.61 TWh, which is 7.8 % less compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, household electricity consumption amounted to 2.55 TWh, which is a 13.1 % increase. Public lighting consumption fell by 11.8 % amounting to some 103.6 GWh. Total electricity production reached 10.3 TWh in the first two months of the year, which is approximately the same as in 2020. Production in thermal power plants decreased by 9.1 % and reached 4.05 TWh. Production in hydropower plants increased by 25.1 % to 2.7 TWh, while electricity production in nuclear power plant Cernavoda decreased by 9 % to 1.85 TWh. Production of wind power rose by 6.1 % compared to the same period of 2020, reaching 1.55 TWh. Solar power production decreased by 19.4 % to 149.2 GWh. Electricity exports in January-February 2021 amounted to 1.09 TWh, which is by 8.6 % more compared to the same period in 2020. At the same time electricity imports decreased by 15.8 % and amounted to 1.25 TWh. Total production of primary energy resources in the first two months of 2021 amounted to 3,063 million tons of oil equivalent, which is 8 % less than in 2020. Coal production reached 476.5 million tons of oil equivalent (- 19.8 %), oil production reached 504.7 million tons of oil equivalent (- 7.6 %), while production of natural gas reached 1,249.8 million tons of oil equivalent (- 8.3 %).
