Greece: Possible deadline extensions for RES projects

Due to the impact of ongoing coronavirus pandemic on investments, Greek Ministry of Energy is considering extending deadlines for the completion of renewable energy projects, regardless if they secured quotas on RES auctions or through direct procedures.

Due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, investors had difficulties in equipment deliveries and the construction process. According to sources, the Ministry plans to extended deadlines for small-scale solar projects (less than 500 kW), which obtained quota via direct procedure, by another six months. Initially set deadline will expire on 30 April. The projects based on quota secured at RES auction could benefit from ten-month deadline extensions. The Ministry also intends to extend a 30 June deadline for projects concerning energy communities, up to 18 MW, formed through non-competitive procedures. Though the additional time to be granted for this category has yet to be decided, an extension ranging from three to six months is being considered.
