Bulgaria: Enery Development’s plan for solar power plant

Austrian Enery Development has started design works on the project for the construction of 200 MW solar power plant near the town of Chirpan, according to Bulgarian media. The new solar facility will cover the area of 140 hectares and local authorities are preparing to issue the construction permit for the project. The Austrian company will also invest in the construction of a new substation and connecting transmission lines.

In September 2020, Enery Development completed the acquisition of Bulgarian ACWA Power CF Karad PV Park, the owner of Karadzhalovo solar power plant, and the plant’s operator NOMAC Bulgaria from Saudi-based ACWA Power. 60.4 MW Karadzhalovo is the largest single-site solar power plant in Bulgaria, and it generated 85.56 GWh of electricity in 2019. Also in 2020, Enery BG 1, a local subsidiary of Austrian Enery Development, said that it is planning to build a 400 MW solar power plant in Haskovo in southern Bulgaria. The expected annual electricity generation of the plant is 560 GWh and it will stretch over some 400 hectares. RES-generated electricity at the plant will prevent 670,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year. The plant will not receive any form of support from the state and it will operate on market principle, selling electricity through power purchase agreements.
