Romania: Engie Romania’s gas distribution network investments

Engie Romania wants to start with rehabilitation, systematization, optimization, and expansion of its gas distribution networks in 2020.The company has earmarked over 200 million euros for these investments.

The company operates under concession the natural gas distribution networks in the southern half of the country and plans to expand its services to localities that do not currently have access to gas network.

Engie has already launched a tender to conclude a framework agreement for the execution of works with up to 30 contracting companies, the deadline for submission of bids being 16 June. The contract is divided into six lots and covers almost 800 kilometers of gas distribution network, both existing lines which should be rehabilitated and upgraded and new ones which should be built. The most expensive lot is the one that includes the distribution networks in Bucharest and Ilfov area, estimated at over 80 million euros.

Engie Romania, a subsidiary of French Engie, recorded a net profit of 72 million euros in 2019, which is a 26 % drop compared to the previous year. In addition to supplying and distributing natural gas, Engie is also active on the Romanian market in the production, supply and trading of electricity as it holds two wind farms.
