The Russian shareholders of Serbian oil company NIS have submitted a formal request to the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to extend the company’s operating license. The request comes amid ongoing talks with a third party that could take over management and control of NIS.
Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović confirmed that the Serbian Government has officially supported the request. She explained that the Russian shareholders expressed readiness to transfer management authority to an external entity as part of efforts to align the company’s operations with international sanctions while ensuring business continuity.
According to reports, OFAC has acknowledged receipt of the request and issued preliminary feedback. Minister Đedović said that a formal response from U.S. authorities is expected within days, stressing the urgency of the situation. She emphasized that finding a swift resolution is crucial to avoid any disruption in fuel supply and to ensure that Serbian consumers are not affected by the sanctions process.
