Romania: Romgaz reports slight output growth but sharp drop in power generation in first nine months of 2025

Romanian natural gas producer Romgaz recorded a modest increase in total hydrocarbon production during the first nine months of 2025, reaching 23.96 million barrels of oil equivalent — up 0.61 percent year-on-year.

Gross natural gas output remained almost unchanged, rising by just 0.11 percent to 23.63 million barrels of oil equivalent between January and September. However, sales of domestically produced natural gas showed strong growth, climbing by 12.41 percent compared to the same period last year to 3.63 billion cubic meters.

In contrast, electricity generation fell sharply by 34.21 percent to 480.1 GWh, reflecting reduced utilization of power assets amid shifting market conditions. The decline underscores Romgaz’s strategic emphasis on reinforcing gas production and ensuring supply stability throughout 2025.
