Montenegro’s power utility EPCG announced that the Pljevlja thermal power plant has been temporarily taken offline following malfunctions in its slag transport system, a component installed during the plant’s recent environmental reconstruction and modernization.
The affected system was delivered by Chinese contractor DEC, part of the broader consortium responsible for the reconstruction. After irregularities were detected in its operation, EPCG requested an immediate inspection from the contractor to determine the root cause and implement corrective measures.
EPCG expects DEC to restore full stability and functionality of the equipment promptly, in accordance with contractual obligations. Once the issues are resolved and the system is verified to be fully operational, TPP Pljevlja will resume test operations.
The plant had only recently returned to service on Sunday, following nine months of extensive reconstruction and modernization aimed at meeting European environmental standards and extending the facility’s operational lifetime.
