Montenegrin state-owned power utility EPCG has successfully installed what it claims is the largest wind turbine currently operating in Europe, underscoring Montenegro’s ambition to not only follow European energy trends but actively shape them.
The Gvozd wind farm serves as a flagship project for this vision. The first 7 MW turbine, featuring a 120-meter tower and 85-meter blades, has been erected, marking the final implementation phase of the project. EPCG expects the remaining turbines to be installed rapidly as equipment arrives, with full assembly and trial operations to follow shortly, accompanied by comprehensive technical testing.
The company highlighted that Gvozd will strengthen the reliability and sustainability of Montenegro’s electricity system while significantly increasing the share of renewable energy. The investment adheres to strict European technical, environmental, and safety standards, further establishing Montenegro as a regional leader in the green transition.
EPCG’s Acting CEO Bojan Djordan emphasized that the project demonstrates Montenegro’s strategic ambition to become an energy hub for the Western Balkans. He noted that completing such a technically demanding project reflects the utility’s organizational strength, expertise, and capacity to implement infrastructure meeting European standards.
EPCG concluded that it remains committed to building a modern, low-carbon, and resilient energy system. Projects like Gvozd illustrate how clean energy development can provide a foundation for system stability, economic progress, and a greener, safer future for Montenegro.
