Europe: Southern demand rises while northern markets see declines in late November

During the week of November 24, electricity demand showed a contrasting pattern across major European markets, increasing in southern regions while declining in northern ones. Specifically, demand in Italy, Spain, and Portugal rose by 5.3%, 4.3%, and 4.0%, respectively. Conversely, the UK and Belgium recorded decreases of 3.9% and 3.2%. France and Germany were more balanced, with France seeing a 1.1% drop and Germany a slight 0.2% increase. These shifts reversed the upward trend observed in all markets the previous week.

Temperature patterns contributed to these changes. Average temperatures were milder compared to the prior week in most markets, except for Italy, where they decreased by 2.0 °C. Northern countries experienced the largest increases, with Germany, Belgium, and the UK rising by about 3.0 °C, while Spain and Portugal saw smaller increases of 0.2 °C and 0.4 °C, respectively.

Looking ahead to the week of December 1, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that demand will rise in Belgium, the UK, and Italy, but fall in Germany, France, Spain, and Portugal, reflecting continued regional variation influenced by weather and seasonal factors, AleaSoft reports.
