According to data from the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute, electricity production in August 2025 decreased by 3.5 percent compared to July, reaching 3,154 GWh, while electricity consumption fell by 7.4 percent to 2,561 GWh.

Natural gas consumption dropped by 2.5 percent on a monthly basis to 155 million cubic meters, with production remaining unchanged at 1 million cubic meters. Compared to August 2024, electricity production decreased by 6.5 percent, while consumption was down by 2.9 percent. Natural gas consumption saw an even steeper decline of 15.8 percent year-on-year.

In the oil products segment, production of unleaded petrol rose by 4.4 percent to 141,000 tons, while consumption increased by 8.5 percent to 64,000 tons. Diesel production, however, fell by 6.8 percent to 259,000 tons, even as its consumption jumped by 11.8 percent to 293,000 tons.

Consumption of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) increased by 5.1 percent to 41,000 tons, while production fell by 25 percent to 6,000 tons. At the same time, production of solid fuels decreased by 21.6 percent to 1,055 thousand tons, and consumption declined by 19.2 percent to 1,120 thousand tons, continuing the downward trend across Bulgaria’s energy sector.
