Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry, Vedran Lakić, held a working meeting with the management of BH-Gas to assess progress and define the next steps in the preparatory phase of the Southern Gas Interconnection project. The meeting followed his recent visit to Greece and discussions with senior U.S. officials.
Both sides confirmed that the Southern Interconnection remains one of the Government’s top strategic priorities. The project is viewed as a key element in strengthening Bosnia and Herzegovina’s long-term energy security, diversifying natural gas supply routes, and supporting sustainable economic and household development.
Minister Lakić emphasized that the United States continues to be a reliable and committed partner in advancing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s energy independence. The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry will continue to coordinate closely with domestic institutions and international partners to ensure the project remains on track and aligned with national interests.
Senior representatives of the U.S. administration reiterated Washington’s strong support for improving Bosnia and Herzegovina’s energy resilience and stressed the importance of advancing the Southern Interconnection without delay. The project is seen as a crucial step toward diversifying the country’s energy sources and strengthening its integration with the European gas network.
Minister Lakić added that the Southern Interconnection, together with the planned Western and Northern gas links, will significantly improve Bosnia and Herzegovina’s access to international energy markets. These interconnections will enhance long-term energy stability, reduce reliance on a single supplier, and further align the country’s energy system with the broader European network.
