Bosnia and Herzegovina: FBiH strengthens energy security with €4.5 million contract and reactivation of Blazuj fuel terminal

State-owned company Operator-Terminali Federacije has signed a contract worth 4.5 million euros with Hifa Oil for the delivery of 4 million liters of oil and petroleum products. The purchased fuel will constitute an important part of the strategic reserves of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH). The agreement enhances the Federation’s energy security and supply stability, marking a key step toward greater resilience and independence in the energy sector.

A key element of the project is the reactivation of the refurbished Blazuj Terminal, which has been brought back into operation for the first time in 35 years. The reopening of the facility represents both a technical and operational achievement and demonstrates the Federation’s long-term commitment to modernizing its energy infrastructure and ensuring reliable fuel storage capacity.

The strategic reserve system is designed to allow a rapid response in emergencies, guarantee continuous supply, and help stabilize fuel prices during disruptions in global supply chains or periods of market volatility. Oil and petroleum products will be transported to the terminal by rail, improving efficiency and safety throughout the logistics process.

The project was implemented with the support of the Federal Government and aligns with the Federation’s broader strategy to strengthen the energy system and upgrade critical infrastructure. Operator-Terminali plans to continue expanding its network of storage facilities and developing strategic projects to ensure long-term stability and energy reliability across the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
