Romania breaks ground on 96 MW Ansthall wind farm, securing power for 89,000 homes

Construction is underway on a new 96 MW wind farm in eastern Romania, marking another milestone in the country’s accelerating shift toward renewable energy. The Ansthall wind farm, located in Galați County, is expected to produce around 309 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 89,000 households.

The project will feature 15 Vestas turbines and is scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2027. Its entire electricity output has already been secured through a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the international retail group Ahold Delhaize, ensuring long-term revenue stability.

The wind farm is owned by Helleniq Energy Holdings, which acquired the project as part of a broader 400 MW portfolio purchased from Swedish renewable developer OX2 earlier this year. For OX2, the start of construction underscores Romania’s accelerating momentum in scaling up green energy capacity. The company is currently building two wind farms, has another project advancing through development, and manages a Romanian portfolio totaling 1.1 GW.
