Bulgaria: September energy output falls as fuel production shows mixed trends

According to data from the Bulgarian National Statistical Institute, electricity production in September 2025 fell by 6.9 % compared to August, reaching 2,936 GWh. Electricity consumption also declined on a monthly basis, dropping by 7.1 % to 2,378 GWh.

Consumption of natural gas recorded a strong monthly increase of 15.5 %, amounting to 179 million cubic meters, while domestic production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters.

On an annual level, electricity production in September decreased by 7.4 % compared to September 2024, while electricity consumption increased by 1.2 %. Natural gas consumption, however, fell by 5.8 % year-on-year.

In the petroleum products segment, unleaded petrol production rose by 6.4 % to 150,000 tons, while consumption increased by 4.7 % to 67,000 tons. Diesel production grew by 7.3 % and reached 278,000 tons, but diesel consumption decreased sharply by 17.4 %, amounting to 242,000 tons. Consumption of LPG increased by 14.6 % to 35,000 tons, with production stable at 6,000 tons.

During the same period, production of solid fuels declined by 30.8 % to 730,000 tons, while consumption dropped by 32.2 %, reaching 759,000 tons.
