Bosnia and Herzegovina: Electricity production in FBiH down 7.8% in September, coal output mixed and coke production plunges

Gross electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) totaled 463 GWh in September 2025, representing a 7.8% decrease compared to the same month in 2024, when production stood at 502 GWh.

Hydropower plants contributed 36.5% of total generation, thermal power plants 57.5%, and wind farms 6%. Net electricity production reached 432 GWh, of which 168 GWh came from hydropower plants, 236 GWh from thermal power plants, and 28 GWh from wind farms.

Electricity imports in September amounted to 176 GWh, up from 122 GWh a year earlier, while exports rose to 133 GWh compared to 118 GWh in September 2024.

Brown coal production reached 322,292 tons, a 3.2% decline from last year’s 332,961 tons. Lignite output increased by 5%, totaling 131,720 tons compared to 125,449 tons in September 2024. Meanwhile, coke production fell sharply by 27.5%, amounting to 24,693 tons, down from 34,037 tons recorded in the same month last year.
