Albania launches second internship call to boost youth employment in oil and gas sector

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, has announced the launch of the second round of internships for students specializing in oil and gas, offering them the opportunity to join the state-owned company Alpetrol.

“In 2024, the Ministry of Infrastructure, in cooperation with Alpetrol, initiated a new project aimed at young men and women pursuing studies in the oil and gas sector,” Balluku stated. She highlighted the success of the first phase of the initiative, which began a year ago, noting that the selected candidates have already become part of the Alpetrol team.

Out of an initial group, 45 young engineers were tested and demonstrated strong interest in becoming part of Alpetrol. The program has shown encouraging results, with the previous call attracting 95 applications. From this pool, 55 candidates successfully passed the initial oral interview phase and are now undergoing written evaluations.

Balluku emphasized that the increasing enthusiasm among young professionals to remain and work in Albania sends a positive signal for the future of the country’s energy sector. She pointed out that Albania has long faced a shortage of engineers, with many seeking opportunities abroad, particularly in Canada and other countries. However, she expressed optimism that the desire to contribute locally to strategic institutions like Alpetrol is growing once again.

Of the 55 candidates currently being assessed, 25 will be hired by Alpetrol, while the remaining applicants will be considered for roles in other public institutions.
